Welcome to Disconnect to Reconnect

Welcome! I’m glad you’re here.

My name is Eric. I’m a graphic designer, sublimation specialist, and someone who, for a long time, felt completely burned out by the digital world.

I love creating. Whether it’s designing vector artwork, creating seamless patterns, or working on my iPad, creativity has always been a huge part of who I am.

But somewhere along the way, I realized I was spending more time consuming than creating.

Can you relate?

Like so many people, I found myself constantly checking my phone, scrolling through social media, watching endless videos, and jumping from one piece of content to the next. Before I knew it, hours had disappeared.

Over time, I noticed something changing.

My focus wasn’t what it used to be.

My creativity suffered.

I felt mentally exhausted.

I had a harder time paying attention for long periods of time.

I wasn’t just tired—I felt disconnected.

Not from technology.

From life.

Don’t get me wrong—I love technology.

Technology today is incredible. It allows us to communicate with family, work from anywhere, learn new skills, pay bills, navigate unfamiliar places, and create things that would have been impossible just a few decades ago.

I don’t believe technology is the enemy.

But I do believe it comes with a cost when we use it without intention.

When we’re constantly scrolling, checking notifications, comparing ourselves to others, or consuming endless content, it becomes easy to lose sight of what’s happening right in front of us.

For me, that’s exactly what happened.

The Moment I Realized Something Had to Change

One Sunday afternoon I sat down at my computer to work on a new design.

Like many designers, I started on Pinterest to gather a little inspiration.

While I was browsing, I received a notification that one of my favorite YouTube creators had uploaded a new video.

“I’ll just watch this one video,” I thought.

One video became another.

Then another.

Then another.

Four hours later, I had accomplished absolutely nothing.

I had a headache.

I felt tired and sluggish.

My motivation to design had completely disappeared.

What could have been an amazing afternoon of creating turned into four hours of mindless consumption.

That moment forced me to ask myself a difficult question:

Who was in control of my attention?

Why I Started This Blog

At first, I thought this blog would simply be about finding a healthier balance with technology.

But as I began writing, I realized it was becoming something much bigger.

Disconnect to Reconnect isn’t just about putting your phone down.

It’s about intentionally disconnecting from the things that distract us—whether that’s technology, endless noise, unhealthy habits, toxic relationships, or anything else that pulls us away from what matters most.

It’s about reconnecting with our families.

Our friends.

Our creativity.

Our health.

Nature.

Our communities.

And the simple moments that make life meaningful.

Technology is still a big part of my life, and I have no intention of giving it up.

I simply want it to serve me instead of controlling me.

I want to use it with purpose.

Then put it away and go live my life.

What You Can Expect Here

Through this blog I’ll be sharing personal stories, practical guides, and lessons I’m learning along the way.

Some articles will feel like we’re sitting together in a coffee shop having a conversation.

Others will be step-by-step guides you can immediately put into practice.

Topics you’ll find here include:

  • Digital minimalism
  • Living a simpler, more intentional life
  • Reclaiming your attention
  • Walking, nature, and being present
  • Creativity and focus
  • Healthy relationships and boundaries
  • Personal growth
  • Practical ways to disconnect from distractions and reconnect with what matters most

I don’t claim to have everything figured out.

I’m still learning too.

Everything I write here comes from my own experiences.

I’m not interested in pretending to have all the answers.

I’m simply sharing what has helped me and what I’m continuing to learn along the way.

More Than Technology

As I’ve written these first few articles, I’ve realized this blog is becoming more than a place to talk about technology.

It’s becoming a place to explore intentional living.

Sometimes that will mean talking about algorithms and digital minimalism.

Other times it might mean taking a walk without your phone.

Simplifying your life.

Setting healthy boundaries.

Letting go of toxic relationships.

Spending more time with family.

Or simply slowing down long enough to appreciate what’s right in front of you.

Whatever the topic, the goal remains the same:

Disconnect from the things that distract you and reconnect with what matters most.

If reclaiming your attention is a good place to start, read Why I’m Reclaiming My Attention next.

One Final Thought

My hope is that this blog becomes a place you can visit whenever you need a reminder to slow down, simplify, and live a little more intentionally.

Read an article.

Take what you need.

Then close the browser, put your phone away, and go live your life.

The world will still be here when you get back.

Welcome to Disconnect to Reconnect.

I’m glad you’re here.
